SHHS basketball earns spots on league team
It was a positive year all the way around for the boy’s and girl’s basketball teams at Sacred Heart High School. Both squads were really competitive and battled well on the court all season.
In their league play, they had to compete against some very strong teams to include North Central and Point Coupee Central.
The Lady Trojans ended their year with an 11-15 overall record and a 5-5 league mark. They qualified for the playoffs and earned a trip to Tensas. They would fall on the road at THS by a score of 51-46. It was a good season to say the least and the Lady Trojans expect to stay strong. They were very young in 2013-14.
On the All-District 5-1A squad, Heather Johnson earned a first team appearance. She made her senior count by putting up 14.5 points per game for the Lady Trojans. She also averaged three assists, four rebounds and four steals per contest.
Another senior, Courtney Cloud was tabbed for the second team. Cloud has been strong for SHHS since she first donned her Lady Trojans Jersey and she capped it with a great season. She averaged 8.5 points a game and seven rebounds. She also helped her team with five rebounds and four blocks in each contest.
One member of the team earned her way to the All-Defensive team. Natalie Earles was an easy choice for her hard work this past season.
Three Lady Trojans received Honorable Mentions. Catherine Poche, Heather Fontenot and Gabbie Andrepont each made big strides this year. Their efforts will surely help the SHHS girls in the future.
The Sacred Heart boys had a very good year. They ended their season with an overall record of 11-17 and a league mark of 5-5. They just missed the post-season, but showed a lot of promise for next season.
A duo of Trojans earned their way to the All-District 5-1A squad. Senior Brad Fontenot and junior Sean Fontenot each were tabbed to the second team. Brad Fontenot averaged 13.3 points a game, along with six rebounds. Sean Fontenot put up 17.2 points a contest and pulled down eight boards a game.
Patrick Donovan was the lone representative of Sacred Heart on the All-Defensive team. Seth Ship received an Honorable Mention on the team as well.
Congratulations go out to the basketball players from SHHS that earned recognition on the All-District 5-1A squad.
