Slaughter honored with jersey retirement

Mamou High School honored the most prolific basketball player in their history on Friday night as Gwen Slaughter had her jersey retired during halftime of the Lady Demon basketball game. Slaughter played for the Lady Demons from 1996 to 1999.
During her time on the hardcourt for Mamou, Slaughter was named to the all-district, all-parish and all-state teams every year. She helped the Lady Demons to two Sweet Sixteen tournament appearances in the four seasons she donned the Mamou uniform. After her high school career, Slaughter earned a full scholarship to Tulane University, where she was named All-Conference USA for three of the four years she played for the Green Wave.
She graduated from Tulane in 2002 with a degree in social art and went on to play for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA. Slaughter has come full circle, as she now resides in Mamou.
