Softball jamborees set for parish teams

It is hard to believe but the 2015 LHSAA softball season is here. The four parish schools that play softball will get their softball campaigns going this weekend as they each will participate in a jamboree or scrimmage. If last season is any indication, this season should bring some exciting softball action in the parish.
Last year, Sacred Heart went into the 2014 playoffs as the number five seed. The Lady Trojans blasted Northwood-Lena 17-2 in the first round. Sacred Heart lost to Cedar Creek in extra innings in the second round by the score of 10-7. The Lady Trojans will travel to Pine Prairie on Saturday to participate in a scrimmage with two other teams. No times were available at press time.
The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers grabbed a share of the district 5-3A championship. The Lady Panthers made a splash in the playoffs winning their first game against Caldwell Parish 3-2. Pine Prairie bowed out of the playoffs in the second round, losing to Kaplan 1-0. They will play host to three other teams in a scrimmage format on Saturday. As of press time the teams and times were not available.
The Mamou Lady Demons held the number 11 seed as they entered last year’s playoffs. The Lady Demons took the bi-district win over Sterlington 5-1 before losing in the regional round to Fisher 2-0 in extra innings. Mamou will travel to Kinder on Friday and Saturday to participate in the Lady Jacket jamboree. The JV will play on Friday against Iowa at 6 and against Kinder at 7 p.m. The varsity will take on Oakdale at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs struggled last season going winless. However, with seven returning starters back, the Lady Bulldogs are looking for a huge amount of improvement. Ville Platte will travel to Elizabeth on Saturday to participate in their jamboree. The Lady Bulldogs will play East Beauregard at 1 p.m. and Elizabeth at 2 p.m.
