Super 10’s win title with sweep
In Moss Bluff, the VP Super 10’s wasted no time in getting into the finals and destroying the competition. They handled Vernon Central 13-1 in the semi-finals and then bounced Moss Bluff National (MBN) for the second time in the tournament with a score of 10-2.
Ville Platte scored 13 runs in their first three at bats against Vernon Central. Landry Lafleur got the win on the hill. He allowed just one run and scattered four hits. Vernon scored their only run of the game in the second frame.
Ville Platte put up eight runs in the first at bat. Issac Leger walked and Hayden Fontenot drove him in with a double. Fontenot was 3-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Walks to Dylan Blevins and Lafleur kept the inning going for VP. A double from Amarion Watson scored both Blevins and Lafleur. Doubles from Ethan Fontenot, Aiden Brignac and Owen Smith really showed off Ville Platte’s firepower and will put the game away early. After all the dust settled, VP was up 8-0 with no looking back.
They added five more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Lafleur and Watson hit back-to-back doubles to begin things and Ethan Fontenot tripled to score both of them. Smith would walk one out later and score on a double from Sam Fontenot. Leger later doubled, bringing Sam Fontenot home. Hayden Fontenot brought Leger home with his second double of the day.
Ville Platte took on MBN in the finals. The winner would go to Metarie and the loser would head to Franklin for the regional. Ville Platte set the tone early on in this game.
Watson took the hill and shut down his opponent early. He allowed just three hits in the game and two earned runs.
Ville Platte scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Hayden Fontenot walked with one out and Blevins and Lafleur hit back-to-back singles. Fontenot crossed the plate on a passed ball and Watson later walked. A double from Ethan Fontenot pushed home two more runs.
Ville Platte got another run on the board in the second inning. Gabe Courville walked and scored on a single from Leger.
Sam Fontenot walked and scored on a single from Dylan Blevins in the fourth frame to make it a 5-1 ball game.
The local boys put the game out of reach with a four-run explosion in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ethan Fontenot was hit by a pitch to get the inning going and, one out later, Brignac was also hit by a pitch. Alex Christofi drove in a run with a pinch hit single moments later. Issac Leger ripped a three-run home run to make it a 10-1 ball game.
DeQuincy added a run in the bottom of the inning, but it was Ville Platte’s crown to take.
