VILLE PLATTE -- It was another rough outing for the Sacred Heart Trojans Friday night as they fell to the Loreauville Tigers 38-7 in a District 5-2A contest.
Sacred Heart now falls to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in district play.
Despite the score, Trojan head coach Josh Harper was pleased with the effort of his players; an effort that did not seem to show up last week against Notre Dame.
“Unlike last week, I thought the effort was there,” said Harper. “I thought we played with heart tonight. We knew coming in that this three game stretch was going to be tough. The last three teams we have played are just better than we are.
“They are stronger and their coaches have been with them for years. We have been with our players as a coaching staff for only weeks. We are going to continue to improve, there is no doubt in my mind.”
It did not take Loreauville long to get on the scoreboard first. After a Trojan punt on the opening possession, the Tigers took the ball over at their 41-yard line.
Seven plays later, Loreauville quarterback Josh Simon jaunted 34 yards over right tackle for the touchdown.
The two-point conversion was no good and Loreauville led 6-0.
The Tigers dispatched the Trojans quickly on their next possession, forcing Sacred Heart to punt once again.
Loreauville took over at their 20-yard line and began a methodical seven play drive that ended in a 19-yard gallup by Je’Dan Jacobs.
Simon converted on the two point conversion run and the Tigers now held a 14-0 lead with 1:27 left to go in the first quarter.
The second quarter was a continuation of the first, with Loreauville collecting two more touchdowns before the half ended.
Jared Henry, the second quarterback for Loreauville hit Brennon Williams on a corner route for 60 yards and Leslie Joseph broke loose on a 15-yard run to cap over the Tiger scoring in the first half.
The extra point tries on both touchdowns were no good and Loreauville took a 26-0 lead into the locker room.
After two more Tiger touchdowns in the third quarter, Sacred Heart finally found some offensive momentum.
The Trojans went on an 18 play trek late in the fourth quarter, culminating in a 1-yard touch down run by Garrick Fontenot, for Sacred Heart’s lone score.
Alec Gotro was true on the extra point and the game ended at 38-7.
Sacred Heart will travel Thursday to take on West St. Mary.
