Trojans begin District 5-1A competition

The Sacred Heart Trojans kicked off District 5-1A play and earned a big win right away. They crushed the Westminster Crusaders 14-1 in non-league play and then swept by the Gators of False River 14-1 to start league play.
The Trojans went up 2-1 over False River in the first inning and never looked back. A double by Brandon Hudspeth got things started in the first frame. It was one of 12 hits the SHHS boys banged out that day.
In the second block, three more runs came home. Doubles from Caleb Soileau and Ellis Parrott moved the score to 5-1.
Soileau, a sophomore, tripled in the fifth frame and that kept the momentum rolling for the local boys. He went on to end his day with a 3-4 performance along with three RBIs.
The Trojans iced the game with five more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Keaton Tate and Andy Lafleur each completed their day at the office with a 2-4 result at the plate.
Philip Vidrine earned the win in the circle. The junior hurler fanned four batters and allowed just two hits.
The SHHS offense continued to roll against False River. They cranked out 13 hits against the Gators.
It started with a pair of runs in the first inning. Ellis Parrott and Andy Lafleur each scored in the first inning and the Trojans were rolling.
In the second inning, Wesley Fontenot reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a single from Keaton Tate.
The 3-1 score would remain until the sixth inning. That was when the Trojans had exploded for 11 runs. They slapped FRA pitching for seven hits in the inning. A triple from Wesley Fontenot and doubles from Keaton Tate, Ellis Parrott and Caleb Soileau were big ways that SHHS closed the game.
Parrott and Soileau were each 3-4 with the stick on offense, while Wesley Fontenot was 2-5 at the dish.
On the hill, Wesley Fontenot got the win. He fanned four batters and allowed just three hits. Josh LaHaye earned the save.
Sacred Heart fell to Point Coupee Catholic 6-1 in their second league game.
Caleb Soileau scored the only run of the game for the Trojans. The Hornets took advantage of a series of walks late in the game. That, coupled with some timely hitting, allowed the PCC boys to take the win over the local boys.
The Trojans will head to Point Coupee Central today for another pair of league games. Saturday, Sacred Heart hosts Iota in a non-league contest.
