Trojans earn win over Breaux Bridge at ULL

The Sacred Heart Trojan baseball team received a tremendous opportunity to play a game at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette baseball complex. The Trojans faced off against a formidable class 4A opponent, the Breaux Bridge Tigers.
Sacred Heart used great pitching and an eight-hit performance at the plate to defeat the Tigers 7-1. With the win, the Trojans run their record to 7-2 on the season.
Sacred Heart was designated home team and used that to their advantage. After giving up a run in the top of the third inning, the Trojans answered in the bottom half of the inning. Evan Mire, on base after being hit by the pitcher, scored on a single to left field by Jacob L. Lafleur, tying the game at 1-1.
The Trojans added to their lead in the fourth inning, plating two more runs. Caleb Soileau and Phillip Vidrine accounted for both runs, increasing the Sacred Heart lead to 3-1.
In the fifth inning, the Trojans produced another run to extend their advantage to 4-1. Lafleur doubled with one out and came around to score on a single by Soileau, after a Garrick Fontenot shallow single had advanced Lafleur to third base.
Sacred Heart rounded out the scoring in the sixth inning, driving in three more runs. Once again, Lafleur produced the big hit of the inning, as Keaton Tate and Brandon Hudspeth came around to score his double to left field.
Trojan pitching ruled the day, as Phillip Vidrine, Josh LaHaye and Soileau all took to the mound, stymieing the Tiger offense. Vidrine began the game on the hill, throwing two and one third innings, giving up one run on two hits.
LaHaye came to the hill in relief and picked up the win, pitching four and one third innings. LaHaye gave up no runs on zero hits and struck out two. Soileau entered the game in the seventh, recording the last out.
At the plate, Sacred Heart was led by Lafleur, who went three for four, including two doubles and four runs batted in. Soileau batted two for four with a double and an RBI.
