Trojans host struggling Hurricanes to open league competition

After back-to-back road trips, the Sacred Heart Trojans get to return home to play on their own turf. What’s even better is the fact that the North Central Hurricanes (1-4) are coming to town. The Canes have struggled this year and have just one win over winless Gueydan.
The Trojans are in  a string of games in which they are expected to win. Of the five contests thus far, they have been perfect, pulling off wins over Mamou and Pine Prairie. As a team, you always want to win the games you are supposed to win and the SHHS group is doing that. They play False River (0-5) next week and then Catholic of Pointe Coupee the week after. The Trojans should get wins in both contests.
The Trojans put up 30 points last week over PPHS. Thus far, the new shotgun speedy style of offense that Head Coach Doug Guillory has put in since week two seems to fit the Trojans well. They put up 70 points in two weeks. First-year signal caller Wesley Fontenot has really found a groove and seems to be getting better with his feet and his arm. This new offense is exactly what the Trojans needed as they march through this five-game stretch. As they head into their tough league games against St. Ed’s and Point Coupee Central, it could be just what the doctor ordered.
North Central is putting up less than 10 points a game and have only scored 52 points in five games. The SHHS defense has thrown back-to-back shutouts and they could easily pitch their third one tomorrow night.
Look for the Trojans to have their way against North Central and improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Soileau-Landry Field in Ville Platte.
