Trojans storm into North Central to garner win

The Trojans of Sacred Heart traveled to face off against the Hurricanes of North Central Friday night. The Sacred Heart Trojans came out on fire, forcing a punt on the opening drive of the game, allowing them to take over at midfield. On the first play, Josh Lahaye hit Caleb Soileau for 42 yards and a Trojan first down. Two plays later, Dylan Scully would find the end zone from four yards out. The extra point, by Bevan Dupre was good, giving the Trojans a 7-0 lead with 6:25 to play in the first quarter.
Sacred Heart forced North Central to turn the ball over on downs. North Central was only able to gain four yards on the drive. The Trojans would then take over at the Hurricanes 46 yard line. Lahaye would find Mikey Laughlin for a 14 yard completion. Scully would run the next play for 18 yards. Then Sam Fontenot would run two plays for five yards and bring up third and five. The next pass by Lahaye would be intercepted by Jody Carlie.
North Central took over at their 17 yard line. After an incomplete pass and a fumbled snap, the Hurricanes wound face third and 17. The Trojans would then blitz and sack the quarterback at the one yard line. Sacred Heart took over at the North Central 34 yard line after the Hurricane punt.
The first play saw Lahaye finding Garrett Fontenot for 33 yards. Scully would then take the next snap to the end zone for a 14-0 lead with 10:07 left in the first half.
North Central would then take over at the 24 yard line. Five plays later, Drecard Duplechain would find his receiver for a 41 yard gain. On first and goal at the four yard line, the Hurricanes fumbled the snap and Nicholas Lahaye would recover it. The Trojans then had four running plays for 29 yards. This would bring up first and 10 at their 33 yard line. Sam Fontenot got hit in the backfield on second down for a loss of five yards. On the third and 15, Lahaye would find Laughlin for a 72 yard touchdown. The extra point was good and the Trojans had a 21-0 lead with 2:47 left to play in the second quarter.
The Sacred Heart defense forced another turnover on downs. Starting at the Hurricane’s 38 yard line, Lahaye completed a pass to Sam Tuminaro for 13 yards. The next play, a Lahaye pass, would be intercepted by Carlie for his second interception of the night. This would bring an end to the first half.
Trojans received the ball to start the second half. Lahaye would find Seth Shipp for an eight yard completion. On the next play, Fontenot ran up the middle for eight more yards. Sacred Heart then took over at their 17 yard line. After an incomplete pass and a run for seven yards by Scully, the Trojans brought up third and three. Lahaye then dropped back to pass and ended up throwing his third interception of the night.
North Central would then be able to take over the ball at the Trojan 10 yard line. They would have two incomplete passes. On third and 10, the ball would be fumbled and recovered by Austin Russell for Sacred Heart.
The Trojans would take over at the Hurricane 21 yard line. Fontenot then got three carries on the drive for 21 yards and another touchdown. The extra point would be no good, and the score was 40-12 with 6:34 remaining in the game.
On the first play of the next drive by North Central, Duplechain found Lamb for 50 yards. The Hurricanes would have first and goal from the 10 yard line. Duplechain would be intercepted by Matthew Santoro. Sacred Heart would run the next three plays for no yards. On fourth down, the Trojans would go for it. Lahaye re-entered the game due to Jacques Fontenot getting injured. Lahaye would find Julien Vidrine for a 55 yard touchdown. The Trojans were now ahead 46-12 with 1:04 left in the game.
On the final play of the game, Duplechain would score for the Hurricanes and got the two-point conversion. The final score would be 46-20 in favor of the Sacred Heart Trojans.
After the game, Sacred Heart’s Head Couch Gary Adkins stated that his team had a hard week of practice, after a tough overtime loss the week before. Adkins was quoted as saying “his team was ready to hit the field again, and they showed it tonight.”
Sacred Heart starts 1-0 in district play and are 3-3 overall. The Trojans will travel to False River Friday Night.
