Trojans sweep three at Eunice Tournament
The Sacred Heart Trojans took to the diamond this weekend to participate in the Eunice High baseball tournament. The Trojans made the most of their trip to St. Landry Parish by winning all three games played. Sacred Heart defeated St. John’s of Plaquemine on Friday by the score of 5-1. The Trojans then disposed of Church Point 9-1 on Saturday and finished off the sweep on Sunday besting the Gators of Beau Chene 5-1. Sacred Heart is now 10-2 on the year and have won six in a row. Here is a recap of those tournament games.
In game one against St. John’s, Sacred Heart’s offense did not come alive until the sixth inning, where they took the lead for good. The Eagles were able to get on the board first plating one run in the fifth. However, the Trojans batted around in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on six hits. The two big at bats came when Phillip Vidrine and Ben Bergeron recorded back to back doubles for Sacred Heart.
Vidrine picked up the win, throwing six and one third innings, surrendering only three hits while striking out five and walking one. Leading the way at the plate was Jacob L. Lafleur, who was two for three, with a run batted in.
Game two saw the Trojan offense come alive, as they scored nine runs on 10 hits. Sacred Heart plated multiple runs in the second, third and sixth innings in the victory. The Trojans moved ahead of the Bears 5-0 after three innings. Church Point managed their only run in the fourth. Sacred Heart added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to extend their lead to 8-1. Just for good measure, the boys in blue tacked on another run in the seventh to seal the win.
Jacob Dupre earned the win, pitching two and one third innings, giving up no runs on no hits, striking out four. Jacob L. Lafleur was three for four at the plate, with a double and a triple to lead the Trojans. Ben Bergeron was one for three, with two runs batted in.
Against Beau Chene on Sunday, Sacred Heart used solid pitching and timely hitting to take down the Gators. The Trojans plated a run in the first to take the early lead. Sacred Heart then scored two in the third and two more in the fifth to close out their scoring. Beau Chene managed to pick up a meaningless run in the sixth inning.
At the plate, Garrick Fontenot went two for two with three runs scored. Brandon Hudspeth was two for four, with a run batted in. On the mound, Caleb Soileau threw a complete game to pick up the win. Soileau gave up one run on five hits, struck out four and walked two.
