With the upcoming football season looming, programs across the state are getting physically and mentally prepared for the chanllenges that lie ahead.
Such is the case for the Sacred Heart Trojans.
The Trojans have been hard at work, not only in the weight room, but also on the field with plyometric drills and the installation of the offense and the defense.
According to Head Coach Gary Adkins, the summer sessions have been a success up until this point.
“I think the weight room workouts have been going really well,” stated Adkins. “We have a good showing of the players. As with every school, you have guys that go on vacation and may miss a little time, but for the most part we have had a tremendous turnout.”
Adkins is also excited with the numbers that have shown interest in participating this season.
“I think we have about 50 on the roster right now,” said Adkins. “For our size school that is a really good number.
Along with the weight room workouts and the on the field drills, Sacred Heart has also been participating in a number of 7-on7 contests against local schools.
“We went up against Oakdale twice in 7-on-7 and also Ville Platte High in a three day period,” commented Adkins. “The first time we faced off against Oakdale, we were a little shaky. But, by the time we faced them the second time, you could tell the improvement in the way we played.”
When asked if any one player has impressed him so far this summer, Adkins pointed to two senior players.
“Caleb Soileau and Seth Shipp are really getting after it this summer. I think the other players are responding to their leadership and are feeding off of their intensity.”
