Turkey Tournament begins; results told from first two days

The annual Sacred Heart Turkey Tournament kicked off in Ville Platte Monday afternoon with a total of five boys teams and six girls teams from around the area competing for the title. Here is a rundown of the first two days of action.

Monday

Crowley (G) vs. Pine Prairie
Game one of the tournament pitted the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers against the Crowley Ladies.
Pine Prairie started slow but finished with a flurry as the Lady Panthers came away with a 53-47 win.
Tori Bordelon lead all Pine Prairie scorers with 18 points, while Sarah Vidrine added 13 in the win.

Crowley (B) vs. Basile
It was all Crowley in game two on Monday as the Gents took a commanding 37 point lead into the locker room en route to a 47-16 win.
Basile got seven points from Trae Brocy in the loss.

Basile (G) vs. Pine Prairie
The Basile Lady Bearcats lead by two at halftime, but pulled away from the Pine Praire Lady Panthers in a 61-49 win. It was Pine Prairie’s second game of the day.
Basile led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter and 26-24 at halftime. The difference in the game was a 16-7 Lady Bearcat advantage in the third quarter.
Basile was lead by Rylie James who poured in 25 points. Kathryn Giles added 13 for the Lady Bearcats in the win.
Pine Prairie was led by Brandy Manuel, who knocked down 17 points in the loss.

St. Ed’s (G) vs. Sacred Heart
In a rematch of the season opener, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans once again dominated the St. Ed’s Lady Blue Jays in a 64-44 win.
The Lady Trojans used a 22-10 first quarter lead and shut out the Lady Jays in the third quarter to get the win.
Sacred Heart was led by Gabbie Andrepont, who netted 21 points. Kara Aguillard chipped in 19 points in the win.

St. Ed’s (B) vs. Sacred Heart
In the final game of the day on Monday, the Sacred Heart Trojans rode a 15 point halftime lead to a 59-35 win over the St. Ed’s Blue Jays.
The Trojans were only up by two points, 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, but had extended the lead to 20 points by the end of the third quarter.
Seth Shipp led all Trojan players with 19 points, while Keaton Tate chipped in 17 for Sacred Heart.

Tuesday

St. Ed’s (G) vs. Pine Prairie
Game one on Tuesday came down to the last seconds, as the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers pulled out a 42-41 win over the St. Ed’s Lady Blue Jays.
Leading scorer for the Lady Panthers was Kayla Lazard, who netted 13 points. Tori Bordelon chipped in 11 points in the win.

Oakdale (G) vs. Sacred Heart
Day two did nothing to slow down the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans, as they cruised to another win. This time it was a 58-34 win over the Oakdale Lady Warriors.
The Lady Trojans found themselves down 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, but held a 25-21 lead at halftime. A 14-5 difference in quarter four gave the Lady Trojans the win.
Once again, Gabbie Andrepont led the way for Sacred Heart, as the senior forward poured in 17 points. Kara Aguillard netted 10 points for the Lady Trojans in the game.

St. Ed’s (B) vs. Basile
It was redemption time for the Basile Bearcats, as they took a 10 point win over the St. Ed’s Blue Jays 47-37.
Rashawn Murphy was the leading scorer for the Bearcats, knocking in 21 points. Trae Brocy added 12 points for Basile in the win.

Oakdale (G) vs. Crowley
In the final girl’s contest on Tuesday, the Crowley Ladies rolled past the Oakdale Lady Warriors 47-28.

Iota (B) vs. Sacred Heart
The final game of the day, pitted the Iota Bulldogs against the Sacred Heart Trojans. Iota used a 15 point advantage in the third quarter to take down Sacred Heart by the score of 55-30.
Seth Shipp led all Trojan scorers in the game with 13 points. Keaton Tate added six in the loss.
The remainder of the tournament will conclude on Wednesday. The Gazette will have those results Sunday.
