Ville Platte’s Lady Bulldogs garner back to back wins
Wins on Saturday and Tuesday by Ville Platte High move the Lady Bulldogs to 18-4 on the season and 2-0 in district. Here is a rundown of the last two games played by Ville Platte High.
Ville Platte
vs. Madison Prep
Coming off of a win against Church Point, the Lady Bulldogs stepped out of district play to host the Madison Prep Lady Chargers. The Baton Rouge based school came into the game with a 17-6 overall record and proved to be a formidable opponent for Ville Platte. The Lady Bulldogs overcame a slow start to take the 59-42 win.
Both teams were not on top of their game to begin the contest. Ville Platte and Madison Prep traded baskets to open the game. Neither team was able to score in double digits in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs did manage to net nine points to take the 9-4 lead as the period ended. Deja McKinney was the start of the opening quarter as she dropped six points in the period.
The second quarter showed a little more promise on the offensive front. The contest remained tight throughout the stanza. The Lady Bulldogs were able to extend their lead to seven points at the 2:43 mark. However, Madison Prep cut the lead down to three only 30 seconds later. Each team traded baskets in the last 25 seconds of the period making the score 21-17 in Ville Platte’s favor as the first half buzzer sounded.
Madison Prep wasted no time taking the lead as the third quarter began. The Lady Chargers started the period with seven unanswered points to take the 24-21 lead at the 6:28 mark. The Lady Bulldogs responded with the next seven points to regain the lead. Ville Platte extended their lead to 33-24 only to have Madison Prep run off the next seven points to tie the game at 33 apiece. The Lady Bulldogs scored the last three points to take the 36-33 lead as the quarter ended.
The final quarter was a back and forth affair. Each team traded baskets until the last minute of the game. The Lady Bulldogs finished with a flurry, going on a 6-2 run to close out the game and take the win. Deja McKinney led all Ville Platte scorers with 21 points. Brianna Pete added 13 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

vs. Northwest
The Lady Bulldogs resumed district play on Tuesday hosting the Northwest Lady Raiders. Both teams came into the game with a 1-0 district record. Ville Platte continued their district domination by taking the 53-48 win and stay perfect in district.
Ville Platte and Northwest began the game trying to get a feel for the flow of the game. The Lady Bulldogs were able to knock down 11 points in the quarter. The Lady Raiders kept pace with Ville Platte, scoring eight points by the time the period ended.
The pace of the game picked up in the second stanza. Miya McKinney aided the Lady Bulldogs by netting six of Ville Platte’s 16 points. Ville Platte held the Lady Raiders to 10 points and took the 27-18 lead as the first half came to a close.
Northwest entered the second half on a mission. The Lady Raiders were able to double the scoring output of the Lady Bulldogs in the period. An 18-9 Northwest advantage tied the ball game at 36 at the end of three periods.
Ville Platte showed that they were not going to give the game up easily. The Lady Bulldogs used a suffocating defense to outscore Northwest 17-8 in the final stanza to close out the victory. Leading the way for Ville Platte was Deja McKinney who netted 16 points. Miya McKinney popped the nets for 15, while Brianna Pete chipped in 10 points.
