Ville Platte defeats Jennings in non-district tilt

Ville Platte High took on the Jennings High Bulldogs in a home non-district contest on Friday night. Ville Platte used a 30-point final period to pull away from Jennings and take the 87-74 win. The Ville Platte Bulldogs have now won seven out their last 10 contests and move their record to 11-8 on the year.
Fast and furious was the name of the first quarter, as both teams poured in double digits to start the game. Ville Platte poured in 22 points and Jennings collected 19 points in the period to make the contest interesting. Alex Gooden and Ernest Ardoin netted five points apiece to lead Ville Platte in the opening stanza.
Another close period saw Ville Platte only take a one-point advantage in the second quarter. Jennings held their own in the stanza, scoring 16 points. However, Ville Platte managed to knock down 17 points and led by four, 39-35, as the first half horn sounded.
Ville Platte continued to hold a slight advantage over Jennings as the third quarter came to a close. Ardoin collected seven points to lead Ville Platte, who scored a total of 18 points in the period. Jennings tacked on another 16 points, as Ville Platte ever so slightly extended their lead to 57-51 with the stanza coming to a close.
A 23-point outburst by Jennings in the final quarter would probably have been enough to overtake and secure a win. However, Ville Platte would not let the visitors from Jeff Davis Parish accomplish such a feat. The Flat Town Bulldogs poured in 30 points of their own to maintain their lead and take the win.
Leading the way for Ville Platte was Brandon Dominick, who tallied 14 points. Keilan Semien added 12 points, while Gooden and Shanicole Holland each chipped in 10 points. Also scoring in double digits for Ville Platte was Ardoin, who scored 11 points in the victory.
