Ville Platte High hoops tourney turns out plenty of action

he first annual Dodge Jeep and Chrysler Bulldog Basketball tourney got under way here Wednesday afternoon. Here is a rundown of the first two days of hoops action.

Wednesday
In the opening game of the tournament, the Mamou Lady Demons got a 21-point effort from Delzeray Bellard in a 53-43 win over the Northwest Lady Raiders.
Game two saw the Lafayette Lady Lions open up a 15-4 lead after one quarter of play in a 34-20 win.
The first boy’s game of the tourney pitted the Northwest Raiders against the David Thibodaux Bulldogs. The Raiders were outscored 34-13 in the first half, as the Bulldogs collected the 54-42 win.
In the nightcap, the Mamou Demons let a 15 point halftime lead slip away in the final two quarters, as they fell to the Opelousas High Tigers 57-53.

Thursday
Game one on Thursday night pitted the Northwest Lady Raiders and the Opelousas Lady Tigers, with Northwest coming out on top 42-34.
The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs made their season debut, as they faced off against the North Central Lady Hurricanes.
Ville Platte’s Tyreonna Doucet and Miya McKinney both scored in double digits to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 45-38 win.
The third game of the evening saw the Mamou Demons take on the Northwest Raiders.
Mamou netted 36 points in the first half, as they cruised to a 65-39 win.
In the final game on Thursday, the Ville Platte Bulldogs held off a fast charging North Central Hurricane team to pick up a 58-46 win.
Ville Platte’s Shanicole Holland led the way with 17 points.
