Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs extend district win streak

Coming into Tuesday’s game against the Port Barre Lady Red Devils, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs were eying another district win to remain undefeated in league play. The last time these two teams squared off, the Lady Bulldogs collected a 29 point win. This time around the game was a little tighter than the last, as Ville Platte pulled away in the final quarter to earn the 49-23 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs looked to get off to a fast start in the first period and take control of the game. Deja McKinney and Kabreonna Stevens helped in that effort as each player dropped seven points in the quarter, giving Ville Platte the 16-6 lead. The Lady Bulldog defense maintained their strangle hold on Port Barre in the second stanza. Ville Platte held the Lady Red Devils to five points and extended their lead to 26-11 as the first half ended.
As the second half opened, the Lady Bulldogs looked to continue their first half dominance; especially on the defensive front. A 10-8 advantage in the third period gave Ville Platte the 36-19 lead as the third quarter came to a close. A commanding defensive effort from the Lady Bulldogs in the final stanza would seal the win. The Lady Bulldogs held Port Barre to four points in the quarter to finish the game and close out the victory.
Ville Platte was led by McKinney who netted 19 points. Stevens added 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Ville Platte is now 24-4 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in district competition. The Lady Bulldogs will host the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers on Friday night.
