Ville Platte playoff hopes continue

Two Evangeline Parish boy’s basketball teams were trying to keep their playoff hopes alive Tuesday night.
Both the Ville Platte High Bulldogs and the Pine Prairie Panthers were looking for wins to increase their chances of being a part of the LHSAA playoffs when the brackets are announced this coming Monday.
Here is a recap of those games played.
Ville Platte vs. Church Point
Ville Platte jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they cruised past Church Point 87-68.
The Bulldogs turned up the heat on offense in the first quarter, outscoring the Bears 30-17.
A 19-9 advantage for Ville Platte in the second quarter gave the Bulldogs a 49-26 lead at the half.
Church Point did manage to outduel Ville Platte in the final period, 25-16, but it was too little too late.
Brandon Thomas scorched the nets for 22 points to lead all Bulldog scorers. Kelian Semien added 18 points, while Tyran Jones chipped in 14 points for Ville Platte.
Ville Platte finishes the season with an overall record of 11-12 and a district record of 5-5.
Pine Prairie vs. Eunice
In Eunice, the Pine Prairie Panthers could not overcome a poor scoring second quarter, as they fell to the Eunice Bobcats 62-41.
Pine Prairie fell behind early, as Eunice outscored the Panthers 13-10 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Panthers could not muster much offense, only netting nine total points, as Eunice took a 32-19 lead into the locker room.
The second half was not much better for Pine Prairie, as the Panthers could only muster 22 points in the entire third and fourth quarters combined.
Darnell Durgin led all Panther scorers with 15 points.
Pine Prairie ends the regular season with an overall record of 13-9.
