WELSH -- To say it has been a rough season for the Mamou Demons is an understatement.
The Demons have not won a game all year, partly because of the youth factor, but mainly because of a slew of injuries that have head coach Brian Brumfield having to play eighth graders in varsity contests.
This past Friday was no different for Mamou as they took another hard loss directly to the chin in a 75-12 loss to the Welsh Greyhounds.
Given that the Greyhounds are the number 10 ranked team in terms of power points and that they came into the game averaging over 50 points a game, one can see why the game ended the way that it did.
With the loss, Mamou is now 0-8 on the season and 0-3 in district play.
It did not take Welsh long to get on the board. The Greyhounds put up 21 points by the time the first quarter was over and a total of 56 points by the end of the first half.
However, Mamou did manage to get on the scoreboard before the first half came to a close.
The Demons collected all 12 of their points in the second quarter.
Darious Tezeno hit Joab Perron for a 20-yard touchdown pass for Mamou’s first score of the night.
Tezeno was not done, as he went back to the air and hooked up with Lane Hudspeth for a 21-yard touchdown pass to close out the Demon scoring.
On the night, Tezeno was 11 of 24 for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
Tezeno also led all Mamou runners with 93 yards on 20 carries.
Lil Paul Williams led all Demon receivers, hauling in two receptions for 77 yards.
Mamou will host Dequincy this coming Friday in another District 4-2A contest.
