Jay Suire visits 3-10 club
Members of the Three Ten Club gathered at the home of Brucie Landry on Tuesday, February 19, for their monthly meeting. Georgie Petitijean and Muff Bier served as co-hostesses.
Mary Beth Geesey, president, presided over the business meeting which was opened with the reading of the club collect lead by Imogene LaCour, and the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Mary Freeland.
The secretary, Carolyn Barouse, and treasurer, Joan Hoffpauir, gave their respective reports. Sarah Bercier presented the nominees for officers for the 2008-2009 club year. Elections will be held in April.
Bobbie Chambers, gave the details of the annual Spring Fling, which will be held on Tuesday, March 18. Members and guest will journey to Opelousas to view the Vivian Alexander Egg Show that is on exhibit at the Opelousas Museum, and then on to Prejeans Restaurant in Lafayette for lunch.
Following the business meeting, Georgie Petitjean introduced Jeremy “Jay” Suire, who is well known for his portrayal of Governor Huey Long. In typical politician’s attire and straw hat in hand “Jay” brought the club members through the life of Huey Long from his birth in Winnfield, Louisiana, growing up poor in Depression Times, becoming an attorney, then entering into politics, and becoming the governor of Louisiana. He completed is soliloquy with Long’s assassination at the age of forty-two, and by quoting his final words “Who will take care of the people.” His performance was most enjoyable and well received by the club.
Following the program, the hostesses served a delicious array of refreshments to Bobbie de la Houssaye, Betty Faulk, Jackie Fogleman, Barbara Geesey, Peggy Landry, Louise Morrow, Jane Omohundro, Peggy Sandidge, Barbara Scanlan, M’elise Trahan, Valerie Trahan, Alice Whiting, Elaine Wright and Helen Zaunbrecher, and also those previously mentioned.
