Just Because: Story gets a lot of attention

The story, “Police find a ‘stuck’ criminal,” which ran Sunday, May 25, got a lot of attention from television stations across the state. The first call came from KATC, Channel Three. Then the Lafayette Fox station called, followed by stations from Lake Charles and Baton Rouge. All of them wanted to use the story.
The story was posted on our website, villeplattetoday.com, and to us it was just another story. These television stations thought it was great, one of those rare stories that will appear one day on television’s dumbest criminal acts. The paper asked the stations to credit The Gazette and Ville Platte Police Department, because the department was instrumental in helping the paper get the necessary information for this article. Some stations followed our request while others didn’t.
The KATC, Channel Three site received a lot of response to this story. We thought we would share some of these responses. We’ve also printed them in the format they’ve appeared on the website. We did not edit any of them, except we might have selected a portion of the response.
•You know this is going to be on the stupid criminals site.
•Give the dog a bone, what a knucklehead.
•Instead of giving “the dog” as you say a bone why not give him a job
• Well this wasn’t a very well thought out plan. I can’t wait to hear how he explains this to his future cell mates. lololololol... I couldn’t have been the arresting officer, I would have had to take a picture with my phone while his silly butt hung there!
•I must say that if I were the arresting officer, I would keep my phone in my pocket. I would pull up a chair and asked him real lengthy questions as to what would possess a person to do something SO DUMB....This would be burglar deserves more than jail time just for being ignorant and should be charged with AGGRAVATED STUPIDITY (not a real criminal charge) but should be for dummies like this.
•This is one dumb guy he needs to learn cooking air vents weren’t made for people to crawl through to rob stores or even to crawl through, I agree there should be a criminal charge for aggravated stupidity that would put so many punks/low life people that would make our streets a whole lot safer if they weren’t there they should put them all in a facility to at least learn how to rob a place w/o going through a dang air vent, this is the biggest idiot ever!!!!!
•Yeah SILLY for him to think he was going to get away with that. lol. like really? how STUPID can you be to go through a COOKING VENT...did he actually think about how small those things really are? GUESS NOT that’s why he’s in the predicament that he’s in. HA!
•What a CLOWN! Join the circus you dumb fool and make an honest living like the rest of us.
•None of you people knows this person so don’t say mean things about anyone. MAY GOD HELP THIS CHILD.
•God only helps those who help themselves... and apparently this enlightened being was just trying to help himself... to the contents of the cash register... or at least to some coconut-flavored cigars and a Slim Jim.

•This is probably what happened; now pay attention. This young man was a customer earlier that day and noticed the stove vent didn’t seem to be preforming up to par. He later in the middle of job hunting recalled the stove vent and returned to ask the business owner for a job cleaning it only to find the place was closed. Well, being a hard working, thoughtful type; he decided that he’d clean the vent then and when the owner returned in the morning he’d be there to show him the good job he’d done for him and just knew he’d get hired!

Open your eyes people, this isn’t a black thing it’s an idiot thing; I mean come on what kind of fool gets stuck butt up in a stove vent of all things!! Now Really!!
• Its not his fault. I have often followed the smell of fried chicken because I just gots to have it ! This poor numbskull probably did the same thing. What’s a brother to do if the chicken joints shut down at two in the morning and at three you get hungry?
• OK it is no longer the 1800’s...Black people do stupid things and so do white...its just a color no matter what white or black it was stupid on his part so let him go to jail and leave it alone...its so sad to say rap music maybe drugs and stupidity but rap music lets step into reality for a minute he is grown no matter what so rap music cant make no grown man do anything...so lets remember GOD here color doesn’t matter.
