KAB looking for volunteers for Great American Clean up

As the world turns green and the flowers continue to bloom, there is additional color added to the landscape in the form of paper, plastic and aluminum from the abundance of trash strewn upon streets, yards and in ditches throughout the city of Abbeville.

However, on May 17, Keep Abbeville Beautiful (KAB) in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful’s Great American clean up is intended to rid the city of much of this debris.

Volunteers will meet in the City Hall parking lot at 8 a.m. armed with trash bags to rid the streets and right of ways of as much trash as possible in four hours.

Last year the organization and community service groups such as the boys scouts and Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs picked up more than 7,000 pounds of trash.

“We are hoping to have more organizations participate and be able to clean up more of the city this year,” Janice Macomber, KAB chairman said.

The clean up day is organized through efforts of KAB, but all organizations or individuals are encouraged and invited to join the event.

“The more people we get on the streets that day, the more trash we can pick up to beautify our city,” Macomber added.

One organization that will participate is the Spartans football team which was formed last year as a semi-pro team.
