Lady Cats cruise to easy win on Senior Day
By Jamie Anfenson-Comeau
Five runs in the first inning helped the Eunice High Lady Cats to a 11-2 win over the Lady Gators of LaGrange Thursday afternoon as the 2008 regular season draws to a close.
“It was a very good game for us; we hit the ball well and played some good defense. We had a little trouble in the second inning, but we came back from it,” Lady Cat head coach Scott Deshotel said after the game.
Brittney Fall opened up scoring in the bottom of the first, driving in one run.
She and Blair Fuselier later scored on wild pitches.
The Lady Cats then loaded the bases before Amber Darbonne drove in one run when she drew a walk.
Andrea Kramer’s base hit drove in the fifth run.
LaGrange got on the board in the top of the third when Danielle Guillory’s fly ball out to left field allowed Ashley Robinson to score.
Later, Courtney James doubled to score one run, narrowing Eunice’s lead to 5-2.
But the Lady Cats came back in the second half; Darbonne took advantage of a wild throw to score, K.K. Devillier singled for one run, and Fall doubled for another run.
The Lady Cats then loaded the bases with only one out, but were unable to take advantage after Sara Hebert popped one out to second base and Brittney Chapman struck out.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kramer tripled and her courtesy runner scored on a wild pitch.
Eunice loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth, allowing Ashley Miller to drive in a run, but a double play and a strikeout ended the opportunity.
An insurance run in the bottom of the sixth helped secure the Lady Cats’ win.
Kramer pitched the win, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine batters after seven innings of work.
Thursday’s game was also Senior Night, when the team took the opportunity to thank their four seniors for all of the work they’ve put in throughout their high school careers.
“We’ve had superb leadership all year from our three seniors; Brittany Faul, Andrea Kramer and Brittney Chapman, and also our senior statistician, Hannah Bollich; they’ve all done an excellent job this season,” Deshotel said.
With the win, the Lady Cats are now 15-6-2 overall, and 6-2 in District 4-4A, where they will finish in second place.
On Monday, the Lady Cats wrap up District 4-4A play with a home game against Sam Houston at 5 p.m.
