Lady Demons devastate Lakeside 5-2

MAMOU – The Lady Demons, seeded 13th in the Class 2A state playoffs dished out a 5-2 beating to number-20 seed Lakeside Tuesday night, advancing to the second round.
On Friday, Mamou (20-10) will travel to DeQuincy (22-9) to face the fourth-seeded Lady Tigers at 5 p.m. for the regional playoff round, barring weather cancellations.
Lakeside (16-15-2) scored first with one run in the top of the firt inning.
Mamou tied the score in the bottom of the second, and then took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Both teams scored one run in the fifth inning.
Sadie Fontenot (15-7) pitched the win for Mamou, giving up two earned runs off of three hits and five walks, while striking out eight batters in seven innings.
Lady Demon Amelia Soileau went 1-for-2 with 3 RBI. Amy Fontenot went 2-for-4 and tripled to drive in one run, while Katie Landreneau went 1-for-4 and doubled, contributing an RBI.
