With only a pair of games to go in district play, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers can get no worse than a share of the championship. Their 3-0 victory over Mamou Thursday secured them a lock in the top spot. The Lady Panthers took on Westminster yesterday and still have Ville Platte and Opelousas Catholic to play.

The Lady Demons are still in the hunt for second place in District 6-2A. They stand at 6-3 with games against Sacred Heart, Opelousas Catholic and Port Barre left to play. The Lady Demons host Sacred Heart next Thursday, which could decide the runner-up in the district.

Pine Prairie pitcher Chelsey Fontenot did a miraculous job in the circle. She went all seven innings and hurled a no-hitter. She fanned 15 batters in the process and walked only one. Her counterpart, Sadie Fontenot, fanned six batters and was tapped for just four hits.

The Lady Panthers got on the board in the top of the second inning. Senior shortstop Alex Deville reached base on an error. She crossed the dish on a double from sophomore Katie Reed.

Three innings later, the Lady Panthers added to their lead. With Courtney Townsend at third base, Madison Murray laid down a beautiful bunt. The throw was wide, allowing Townsend to score.

In the top of the sixth inning, Pine Prairie added to their lead. Senior catcher Kayla Johnson roped a triple. She scored on a fly ball to the outfield from Deville.

The win moves Pine Prairie to 20-6 overall and 9-0 in district. Mamou moves to 17-10 overall.
