The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers remained perfect in district with a 10-1 victory over the Lady Red Devils of Port Barre. The PPHS girls got their bats started early and never looked back.
In the top of the first inning, Kayla Johnson got things started with a base on balls and Alex Deville followed with a single. Two outs later, Courtney Townsend reached base on a walk. A free pass was allowed to Chelsey Fontenot, pushing one run across the plate. Katie Reed was the next batter.
Her single allowed three Lady Panthers to come and give PPHS a 4-0 lead.
Port Barre plated one run in the bottom of the first inning and then Pine Prairie exploded for three more runs. Madison Murray and Ashley Marcantel led off the inning with a pair of singles. A double from Johnson drove both runners across the plate to score. Johnson later scored on a passed ball.
Murray singled and scored on an error hit by Johnson (2-3, 2 DB, 3 RBI).
In the sixth inning, two more Lady Panthers came across the plate. Emily Marcantel singled with one out and Townsend walked on four balls.
Marcantel scored on a fielder’s choice from Red and Townsend scored on a fielder’s choice from Paige Briscoe.
Chelsey Fontenot got the win on the mound. She fanned 11 batters and allowed just one hit.
