4-H’ers attend university

“Geauxing for the Gold” was the theme of the 102th Annual 4-H University held on the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge. Twenty-seven 4-H’ers from Evangeline Parish participated this year. 4-H University is a state wide competition where 1,543 4-H’ers from throughout the state competed in many different categories or participated in Clover College. This is a very educational opportunity for member to learn, grow, and win trips and prizes.
This year’s 4-H University participants did a terrific job representing Evangeline Parish. Louisiana 4-H is an educational program of the LSU AgCenter. The participants were as follows: ATV –Luke Duplechin; Basile, Career Preparation Interview - Moira Parks; Sacred Heart, Clover College - Wyatt Lafleur; Basile, Compact Tractor - Andrew Fontenot; Basile, Computer Simulation - Evan Miller; Sacred Heart, Samuel Hollier; Sacred Heart, 2nd Place State-wide. Consumer Foods Judging - Camille Bergeron; Sacred Heart, Morgan Fontenot; Sacred Heart, 4th Place State-wide. Family and Consumer Sciences - Hope Major; Ville Platte High, Allison Bello; Ville Platte High, Blue Ribbon Winner. Ready to Wear - Hallie Daire; Sacred Heart, Gabrielle Fontenot; Sacred Heart, 1st Place State-wide. Gabrielle wins a trip to visit New York City. Casual Fashion Review – Iyana Freeman; Ville Platte High, Horticulture Judging Contest - Tre’ Fontenot; Sacred Heart, Meat Evaluation, Judging and Identification - Lelia Deville; Pine Prairie High, Dreu Fontenot; Sacred Heart, Callie Pitre; Sacred Heart, Madison Darbonne; Sacred Heart, 3rd Place Team State-wide. Lelia Deville, Blue Ribbon Winner Individual. Photography - Madison Fontenot; Sacred Heart, 1st Place State-wide. Madison wins a trip to 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia. Public Speaking - Alyson Fontenot; Sacred Heart, Blue Ribbon Winner, 4-H Has Talent - Samuel Gil; Sacred Heart, Daniel Fontenot; Ville Platte High, Teens Driving Teens to Safety - Reid Eastin; Ville Platte High, Sean Eastin; Ville Platte High, Abigail Soileau; Sacred Heart, Magen Ardoin; Sacred Heart, Blue Ribbon Winner. Wildlife Habitat Judging - Daniel Paul; Bayou Chicot Elementary.
Accompanying these 4-H’ers were adult volunteers leaders Angie Fontenot and Ardhyn Parks, along with 4-H agents Kim Deville and Todd Fontenot.
We would like to congratulate these 4-H members for their hard work, effort and dedication to preparation for their contests. A thank you goes to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, friends and the community for encouraging and supporting these 4-H’ers in their quest during state competition. Also, a sincere “Thanks” to the people in our community, and to the staff of the Evangeline Parish Cooperative Extension Service for helping train these young people and for the cooperation and support that was given.
