Catholic Daughters hold annual memorial mass

Gazette Staff Report

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, held its annual memorial mass for those members who passed away during the past year. Members honored were Gwen Johnson, Yvette Soileau, Theresa Reed, Bernita Soileau, Germa Vidrine, Ethel Rawls and Andree LeBas. Their families were invited to attend and received a candle and a white carnation.
Father Tom Voorhies was the mass celebrant. Those serving a special place in the mass were Rita Fontenot and Anetta Fontenot, who placed the flag and CDA banner; organist Barbara Buroker; mistress of ceremonies Verna Guillory, altar boy Nick LeBas, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion Barbara Vidrine and gift bearers Celia Ardoin and Jacqueline LeBas.
After the mass, Regent Barbara Delafosse read a poem on how to live better lives.
A short meeting was held after the mass. On November 24, court members will make Christmas cards for the residents of Heritage Manor Nursing Home in the Sacred Heart meeting room beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Members were reminded of the court activities for the month of December. The court’s Christmas social will be held on December 2, in the science lab at Sacred Heart Elementary School at 6 p.m. All members are asked to bring a covered dish, a gift for an infant or child up to age 18 and non-perishable food items for the Christmas food baskets. The court will host a Christmas party at Heritage Manor Nursing Home on Saturday, December 12. The court was asked to bring items for a man or woman to be used for bingo prizes.
The local CDA court’s CDA Kid is Nicoli Silva Breaux. If he is chosen as the Louisiana CDA Kid, all of the Catholic Daughter courts throughout the state will contribute to assist with his needs.
Refreshments were enjoyed by court members after the meeting. If any members have questions about the December activities, they can call Regent Barbara Delafosse at 224-7795.
