Catholic Daughters hold first meeting of new club year; install new slate of officers

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, began its first meeting of the new club year with the installation of new officers by District Regent Betty Soileau from Opelousas, followed by a mass celebrated by the court’s chaplain, Father Brian Harrington, on Wednesday, September 6, at 6 p.m. The court’s flag team, consisting of members Edna Soileau, Anetta Fontenot, Gerry Guillory, Velma Bernard and Rita Fontenot, led the procession into the church. Members bringing up the gifts were Kathy Coldiron and Freida Coreil. Sacred Heart Catholic Church music director Benoit L. Lebleu provided the music.
Officers installed for the coming year were: Barbara Delafosse, regent; Belinda Fontenot, vice regent; Peggy Soileau, recording secretary; Sybil Veillon, financial secretary; and Miranda Roberie, treasurer. Father Harrington congratulated the new officers and spoke about the services provided by the Catholic Daughters’ court activities. The group’s motto “Unity and Charity,” noticed on the national banner, sums up the CDA mission. The services provided by the court’s projects show Christian love and fellowship to others.
A reception followed the mass in the church meeting room. At the meeting, two charter members, Celia Ardoin and Jacqueline LeBas, were recognized. The court placed second in the state for recruting the most new members, and a certificate and $100 was received from the state organization. Darlene Roberie was credited with recruiting new members.
The annual birthday cake then was enjoyed by the members in attendance.
