Cotton Queen LX crowned Saturday afternoon
The 60th annual Queen Cotton Pageant was held Saturday afternoon, October 12, in conjunction with the Cotton Festival. Following the introduction of all Cotton and Tournoi royalty, Kaelah Alysse Cobb, the 19-year-old daughter of Charles and Norma Cobb of Baton Rouge, was crowned Queen Cotton LX by outgoing Queen Cotton LIX Kaylee Beaubouef.
The brown-eyed, black-haired beauty is currently pursuing a degree in political science at LSU. Upon graduation, in May of 2016, her goal is to attend LSU Law School beginning in the fall of 2017. She plans to become president of Delta Zeta and lead the chapter through the good and the bad, realizing all of the group’s goals, with continued success for all alumni and those to follow. She also plans to work hard and study hard to keep and maintain her Dean’s List scholar standing.
Her hobbies include taking her dogs to the dog park, traveling, attending as many Delta Zeta functions as possible, running, volunteering with local charities, family vacations and spending time with friends.
Some of her accomplishments include serving as pledge class president of Delta Zeta, LSU Dean’s List, Rush Award, Turtle Captain and Delta Zeta hometown chair. She is also a licensed first responder.
Cobb is very active in the community as a reading volunteer at Highland Elementary School and as a volunteer with CatHaven Baton Rouge, CAAWS Baton Rouge, Speech and Hearing Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
Stephanie Yvonne Becnel, the 23-year-old daughter of Catherine Becnel and Mr. and Mrs. Steven Becnel of Belle Chasse, was selected as first runner-up to the new queen.
Other contestants vying for the title of Queen Cotton were Carly Peyton Chaumont, the 18-year-old daughter of Brad and Christine Chaumont of Turkey Creek; Falon-Melan Rose Jackson, the 22-year-old daughter of Beverly Jackson of Mansura; and Kelsey Kristine McDaniel, the 18-year-old daughter of Ranella McDaniel of Geuydan.
