This week, we take a look back at October 1969.
• William T. Hackett Jr., director of Commerce and Industries in Louisiana, was the guest speaker at the Cotton Festival’s Princess Luncheon.
• Alfred Lagrange of Opelousas was named Yam King of the Yambilee Festival.
• Ville Platte fireman Abel Deville posed in a photo next to the station’s two new fire trucks. Both trucks had a 1,250 gallon per minute pumping capacity with a 500 gallon water storage tanks.
• Patsy Fontenot, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fontenot of Ville Platte, was engaged to marry Vincent Vidrine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isom Vidrine of Ville Platte.
• Judy Elaine Guillory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Guillory of Chataignier, was engaged to marry Kenneth Eugene Fullington of Lake Charles.
• Cecile Olivier and her groom-elect, William Daumueller, were honorees at a cocktail party and supper with Mr. and Mrs. Davis Schexnayder as hosts.
• Anthony Johnson, David Landreneau, Charles Veillon and Charles Buller showed off squirrels in photos following successful hunting trips.
• Hal Fontenot, Steve Landreneau and Kenneth Guillory, all members of the Ville Platte High School Future Farmers of America Chapter, attended the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Missouri.
• Dr. Ed Morrison of Ville Platte attended a post-graduate seminar in Dallas, Texas for optometrists of the area who are clinical associates of the Optometric Extension Program.
• Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richard of Ville Platte met with 3rd Congressional District Congressman Patrick T. Caffey during SLEMCO’S 32nd annual meeting at the Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette.
• Mabel Thompson, Mrs. Nathan Guillory and Mrs. J.E. Compton of the Chicot Home Demonstration Club were among the hostesses of the Evangeline Parish Home Demonstration council meeting held at Chicot State Park.
•The home of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Ardoin of Vile Platte won the Magnolia Garden Club’s Garden of the Month award.
