Magnolia Garden Club holds monthly meeting
The Magnolia Garden Club resumed its monthly selection of a yard of the month and civic award for business yards in April and will continue through November. Selections will be made during the second week of each month. The harsh winter has brought about a lot of clean up. An announcement about a clean up date for Ville Platte will soon be made.
The April meeting of the Magnolia Garden Club was hosted by Beth Fontenot on Monday, April 14, with President Hazel Fontenot presiding.
The May social will be cohosted by Paula Landreneau and Lola Fontenot at Landreneau’s home on May 14. At that time, the new officers for next year will be installed by outgoing President Hazel Fontenot.
Glenda Mitchell had taken pictures of the city’s Heritage Garden sponsored by the club. A number of repairs, replanting and refurbishing are needed. Mitchell and Haidee Floyed will chair this event and the city will provide the workmen. In the fall, the club will plant a tree in the new ball park.
Club members were given the dates for the Sunset Herb Festival (May 3), Abbeville Daylily Festival (June 7) and the summer board meeting in Baton Rouge (July 21-22).
Beth Fontenot’s program featured the use of spring bedding plants in centerpieces placed at vantage points throughout the reception rooms. They were placed in shrink wrap plastic bags, covered with artificial moss and then placed in decorative pots or trays. Later, they will be planted in her yard.
Club members enjoyed a meal of Italian cheeses, sandwiches, salad and dessert.
President Hazel Fontenot’s quote for the day was, “It is not how much you have, but how much you enjoy that makes happiness.”
