Magnolia Garden Club installs new club officers at spring social

The Magnolia Garden Club met at the home of Paula Landreneau on Monday, May 12, for the annual spring social, which was hosted by Landreneau and Lola Fontenot. Special guests for the occasion were Ethel Landreneau and Ann Jones from the Washington Garden Club. Local club members in attendance were Glenda Mitchell, Mable Foreman, Elaine LaTour, Hazel Fontenot, Geannie Ardoin, Joyce Coreil, Theresa Attales, Dalayne Veillon and Lynn Landreneau.
Outgoing president Hazel Fontenot conducted the meeting. She announced the following events: on May 18, the Abbeville Garden Club hosted a tour of homes, and the Abbeville Day Lily Festival will be held on the first Saturday of June; the state board meeting will be held in Baton Rouge on July 22-23; the Fall District Meeting will be hosted by the Rayne Garden Club and the Magnolia Garden Club will donate a bag of goodies for the raffle; and Dalayne Veillon will make a wreath for the state convention scheduled for April 22-23, 2015.
Glenda Mitchell filled out papers to register the live oaks at the home of Keith and Martha Miller in the Louisiana Live Oak Society.
Ethel Landreneau and Ann Jones performed the ceremony installing the new club officers. They are: Mable Foreman, president; Elaine LaTour, vice president; Lynn Landreneau, secretary; Glenda Mitchell, treasurer; Joyce Coreil, historian; and Paula Landreneau, parliamentarian.
Hazel Fontenot suggested two ladies nights out during the summer, one on June 15, and the other on the second Monday of July. She then closed the meeting with two quotes, “You are never strong enough that you don’t need help” and one from her mother, Mrs. Fred Bordelon, “Help someone before they ask you.”
Mable Foreman had brought a flower arrangement to a shut in and the recipient was very appreciative.
A social hour and delicious meal followed the meeting.
