Magnolia Garden Club presents awards
Spring is here and bright-colored flowers are blooming in yards. A committee from the Magnolia Garden Club recently chose the residential yard and business civic pride award for the month of April. The home of Paul Stanbrough, first photo, received the Yard of the Month Award, and Euco Finance Company, second photo, received the Civic Pride Award. Stanbrough’s home is located on a corner lot and azaleas are featured in that area. Two oak trees provide a canopy over the sidewalk to the front entrance. Flower beds surround the house. A pleasing mix of flowers and shrubbery fill the beds. Dark pink formosa azaleas are the focal blooms at the present time. Loropetalum, nandina and a camelia at each end of the house provide greenery. Bedding plants with blooms are verbena, marigolds, petunias, gerbera daisies and agapanthus for later in the spring. Two more oak trees shade the driveway. Euco Finance, located at 700 West LaSalle Street, features a bed curved to fit the corner. The bed features knockout rose bushes, nandinas, Indian hawthorne, Arizona sunflower vine, coreopsis, several colors of petunias and purple verbenas. The Magnolia Garden Club will chose a Yard of the Month and Civic Pride Award each month through November. The selection will be near the 15th of each month. A city-wide clean up day will be announced very soon. Please clean your yards or businesses and mow the lawns.
