Magnolia Garden Club presents awards
The Garden of the Month and Civic Pride Award of Merit for August was selected by a committee from the Magnolia Garden Club. The recipient of the Garden of the Month honor was the home of Mitch and Betsy Fontenot, and the Civic Pride Award was presented to the Evangeline Parish Courthouse. At the Fontenot residence, colorful flower wreaths adorn the massive iron gates at the driveway entrance. Two large live oak trees, surrounded by beds of azaleas, holly ferns and striped grass, are located on either side of a large bed featuring agapanthus and azaleas, centered with a multi-tiered swan fountain. Many large oak trees are found in the yard. A bed on the left side holds azaleas surrounding a smaller statue. Two beds anchoring the lovely, two-story home have azaleas and striped grasses in the shadow of a small tree. Crepe myrtles line the street and a flag pole with the American flag is on the right of the house. Flower wreaths adorn the front door and one gets a peep at a beautiful patio and back yard through the fence. This is a beautiful and serene setting for the home. The courthouse features live oak trees along the street, crepe myrtles and liriope lining the walks and the bell tower surrounded by day lilies, while large evergreens accent the building and roses line the front of the Evangeline statue. The featured bed is near the entrance on the side of the Clerk of Court’s office. This bed has impatients, hostas, lorepetalum, day lilies, roses, tall purple grass and evergreens against the wall and striped grass edging the bed.
