Mamou Rotary Club hears from District president-elect

Gazette Staff Report

The Mamou Rotary Club met for their usual weekly meeting at the fire station in Mamou on Wednesday, February 17. Members shared a delicious meal from Krazy Cajun Cafe’, while celebrating a special day for one of their own, Luke Deshotel (club sergeant-at-arms) who was celebrating his birthday. This particular meeting also had two guests in attendance, Toni Aguillard, who is running for Republican State Central Committee District 28-C (RSCC), and Francis Nezianya, Rotary District 6200 president-elect.
Aguillard spoke first, sharing many educational details about the importance of voting and her love for Louisiana. She moved from Oklahoma to Louisiana 45 years ago, but Rotarian Elvin Reed has approved her as a local. Her family raises Texas long horn cattle right here in Evangeline Parish. She emphasized the importance of the Louisiana’s Republican State Central Committee’s influence in conveying the results of the upcoming March 5, Presidential Preference Primary to the floor of the Republican National Convention. Louisiana’s 46 Republican delegates will cast votes to nominate presidential candidates in proportion to your votes in the state’s upcoming Presidential Preference Primary. She urged everyone to get out and vote early at the courthouse through February 27.
Nezianya told the group an incredibly inspiring story about himself. He was born and raised in Nigeria and studied in Greece. Once his father passed away, he moved to the United States and attended a university in Baton Rouge. He is also the successful owner of 15 Subway restaurants. He was a very positive character and a wonderful role model for anyone seeking higher education.
The Rotary Club of Mamou was happy to have both of these special guests. If you or someone you know is interested in joining, speaking or simply attending a Rotary meeting, please contact Club President Valli Soileau (337) 459-5540. We love to meet new and inspiring members of our community. Our group in particular may be small but we engage in interactive discussions and share good news each week.
