Ortego crowned EP Farm Bureau Queen during annual meeting
The 63rd Annual Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau Meeting and Queen’s Contest was held Sunday, March 8, at the Northside Civic Center.
President Richard Fontenot welcomed everyone and thanked the women’s committee and everyone else who helped make the evening possible. He also thanked outgoing queen Rebecca Hollier for her wonderful reign as Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau Queen. He also gave a brief president’s report on the past year in agriculture throughout the state and Evangeline Parish. He then introduced Scotty Fontenot, who presented the list of nominees for the board of directors and Winston Fontenot who gave the insurance report to the members in attendance.
Before the new queen was crowned Hollier gave her farewell address, saying she enjoyed her reign and made some wonderful memories. She also wished the new queen well.
Emcee Jeremy Ortego then announced Rheagan Ortego as the 63rd Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau Queen. Ortego is the 16-year-old daughter of Bubba and Tonya Ortego of Basile. She attends Basile High School, where she is a three-year member of the varsity Basile Lady Cats basketball and track teams. She is also a one-year member of the varsity cheerleader squad and a member of the Beta, FBLA and 4-H clubs. She has received numerous awards, including honor roll, state FBLA finalist, state Beta winner, numerous 4-H awards. She also was the 2014 Evangeline Parish champion in the 100 meter dash. After graduation, she plans to attend LSU in Baton Rouge. She has been a volunteer for the St. Augustine’s Church Bazaar for several years. Her hobbies include playing basketball, traveling to various Louisiana fairs and festivals, four-wheeler riding, fishing and spending time with her family and friends.
