Pyrates visit Evangeline Parish

Last week, the Benevolent Pyrates visited Evangeline Parish. They stayed at the Hotel Cazan in Mamou while visiting Mamou and Ville Platte. On Thursday, April 7, they visited with residents of Chateau des Amis in Ville Platte to share tales and hear stories from the residents about the pirate history of Louisiana and the residents personal history. While down in Louisiana, they also visited Ville Platte High School, Mamou High School, the Swamp Pop Museum and a couple of local meat markets, and they also assisted Every Paw Animal Rescue and Keep Evangeline Beautiful with the groups’ work. The pyrates are from Canada and visit Louisiana often while hosting Pyrate Week in New Orleans each year. In the first photo, from left, “Captain John Swallow,” “Seika Hellbound” and “Copper Otter” visit with the residents of Chateau des Amis to share stories. In the next two photos, the pyrates visited with the students at Ville Platte High School for a lesson on pirate history. In the last photo, the pyrates visit with Luke Deville with Teet’s Food Store for a tour of the smokehouse and to learn about the process of smoking meat.
