Angie Rozas, this year’s parade marshal for the Grand Parade of Cotton, is excited to be a part of the event, proclaiming, “I was shocked, then I was thrilled, honored and grateful.” She continues, “I feel it is a privilege to be the parade marshal. I have so many good memories of past Cotton Festivals.”
Rozas comes from a large family and enjoys quilting, baking and embroidery. She is married to Mitch Rozas, and they share four children and 10 grandchildren.
She was employed with the Social Security Office in Opelousas and administrative assistant at Sacred Heart High School. She is currently employed with the Cleco office in Ville Platte.
As a board member of the Ville Platte Boys and Girls Club, Rozas said she is invested in working with the organization because “it provides guidance to the youth of the community.”
She looks forward to the Cotton Festival each year and recalls growing up two blocks from the fairgrounds and watching the lights of the ferris wheel from the garage roof as a child. She shares that this year’s theme of “Cotton’s Quilted Memories” brings back many fond memories of when the festival held quilting and gardening contests, sharing that in 1983, she, her mother and grandmother each won first place in their respective divisions in the quilting contest.
Rozas says she has always enjoyed the festival as an observer and commends all involved for their dedication and hard work in putting it on each year.
