VP Rotary Club hears from Kelli Landry with The Family Tree
January 20, Meeting
Kelli Landry with The Family Tree was the guest speaker for the January 20, meeting of the Ville Platte Rotary Club. Landry is the case manger for the Healthy Start program, which is one of many that falls underneath The Family Tree’s umbrella of programs for those in need of services. As case manager, she relishes helping women, children and their families connect to the many available resources they may not know about otherwise. She noted the program is free to expectant moms and moms with children two and under, however, others will not be turned away. One of the goals is to improve overall health and reduce infant mortality rates, especially among African American women and children. She said domestic violence, family and anger management issues are also services that are provided for under the program. Landry stated the program is federally funded and provides those in need with access to care. The Acadiana Family Tree serves Evangeline, Lafayette, St. Martin, Acadia and Iberville parishes. One of Landry’s goals is greater community outreach in order to let the community know help is available and where and how to obtain assistance.
