9-1-1 Board begins process of replacing board chairman

The Evangeline Parish 9-1-1 Board has begun the process of electing a new chairman.
At Wednesday night’s special board meeting, it was announced that longtime board member Kent Fontenot had resigned not only as chairman, but also as a member of the board.
“Last week Kent called me and told me that he was resigning,” Secretary-Treasurer Pat Derouselle said. “He asked to resign and step off the board.”
Attorney Brent Coreil recommended that the board vote someone as an acting chairman and another as an acting signatory to aid with the signing of checks. That way the board could continue with business until someone is selected to replace Fontenot on the board, and then the new fully staffed board could vote on a new chairman.
The board voted Derouselle as acting chairman and Nathaniel Thomas as signatory.
Coreil also recommended to Director Liz Hill, and the rest of the board, that a final punch list (a document listing work not conforming to contract specifications that the contractor must finish) be made for any final repairs or add-ons for the complex. That final list will then be sent to Coreil, the architect and contractor.
“I will tell them to finish this as soon as possible,” Coreil added.
Other items approved at the meeting were:
•To accept the bid of $5,225.00 by The Ground Guys of Ville Platte on landscaping work at the complex, which includes putting the building’s down spouts underground to help halt erosion, the laying of fresh top soil and planting of St. Augustine grass seed on the property.
•To accept the bid of $21,164.51 by VFIS for the board’s annual insurance premiums.
