Arvie elected Dist. 9 Juror

The race to determine who will replace Richard “Blood” Thomas on the Evangeline Parish Police Jury has been decided.
Daniel Arvie defeated challenger Shawn D. Gallow by taking 55 percent of the vote in the District 9 run-off on Saturday night. Arvie took 792 total votes compared to Gallow’s 652.
The District 9 race had the highest turnout during the October 24th general election with a total of 1,158 votes cast for all three candidates on the ballot, the third was Gerald Alfred who failed to make the runoff.
Turnout this time was high for the race as 56.8 percent of eligible voters cast their ballot, with a total of 1,444 votes counted.
Arvie will replace longtime juror Thomas, who opted to not seek reelection this election cycle. Thomas had publicly endorse his step-son-in-law Gallow.
In addition to the police jury race, all three propositions on the ballot passed easily.
•The $8.5 million, 20-year bond measure for the School District No. 7 of the Second Police Jury Ward in Evangeline Parish passed with 74 percent of voters agreeing to the measure.
•The Acadia-Evangeline Fire Protection District tax renewal also was passed with 74 percent of the voters agreeing to the renewal.
•The homestead exemption measure for disabled veterans passed with 70 percent of parish voters agreeing to the measure.
