Audit shows theft in Mamou utility department

Gazette Staff Report

Television station KATC reported on Monday that a legislative audit uncovered theft in the town’s utility department.
According to the audit, utility department employee Scott Rickey McGee dismantled more than $9,000 in water valves and meters and sold the brass casing as scrap. The audit also notes that McGee has since been fired and charged in connection with the theft. The audit says McGee pleaded not guilty in the case.
The town was also cited for not notifying the legislative auditor when the alleged theft was discovered.
