Bayou Chicot native looking to build momentum from run on “The Voice”

For James Dupre, there is no place like home, and he has made this point known with the release of his latest single Someday Today.
“Someday Today was chosen as the single because I was homesick when it was written, which made it special to me because it was about my home. When I moved away I realized how special home really was,” Dupre said while playing a round of cards at his younger brother Ashton’s Turkey Creek residence.
The 31-year old Bayou Chicot native’s single, that was released on January 26 and can be purchased on iTunes, is his first since his time as a contestant on NBC’s hit show The Voice.
With song lyrics inspired from his home state, Dupre took to the stage to perform Someday Today at The Texas Club in Baton Rouge last night. Dupre said, “This was the first time I performed this song for a crowd in Louisiana, which was really exciting.”
According to Dupre, this was the perfect weekend to perform his single in Louisiana for the first time. Dupre said, “Performing Someday Today this weekend was special for me because there are Louisiana references throughout the song and it is Mardi Gras weekend. This time of year Louisiana’s people are in a unique spirit because of the holiday so it felt good to perform a song for my people that reflects how special things are here.”
Throughout the other tracks that will appear on Dupre’s album, which is looking to be released in early March of this year, fans will be able to hear more references about the place Dupre was born and raised. Dupre said, “I write about what means the most to me, and home is one of those things. I also used references from my own life and experiences to create an album that is true to who I am.”
Although this parish native left home to pursue his dream of making it big in Nashville, it is clear that his heart remains in Louisiana. Dupre said, “I plan to move back home one day once I have built my career up to where I want it to be. This is the place I will live, die, and be buried.”
