BOGGY BAYOU: Lavergne, Fontenot selected as festival’s senior king & queen

Each year, employees at Prairie Manor Nursing Home select a Senior Boggy Bayou King and Queen to represent the nursing home throughout the year. This year was no different.
Crowned as this year’s Senior King was Calvin Lavergne, 70. The native of Opelousas has been residing in the local nursing home for seven months. He has one daughter, Angela Lavergne, and one son, Jason Lavergne. He also has three grandchildren.
This year’s Senior Queen is Ethel Fontenot, 75. The Pine Prairie native has been residing in the local nursing home for one year and nine months. She is the mother of three daughters, Stephanie Ardoin, Angela Manuel, and Shannon Barrilleux, and two sons, Mark Fontenot, and Stephen Fontenot. She is the proud grandmother of 15 and has 31 great-grandchilden. She also has one great, great-grandchild.
This year’s senior king and queen will take part in the 33rd Annual Boggy Bayou Festival and will be presented during the Queen’s Pageant on Saturday, April 8, at 2 p.m.
