Country music singer Charley Rivers has been selected to headline the 33rd Annual Boggy Bayou Festival in Pine Prairie.
Rivers will take the stage on Saturday night, April 8, from 10 p.m. till 12:30 a.m.
Evangeline Parish’s Ashton Dupre and The Last Call Band will open for Rivers.
Rivers was born in Alexandria and raised in Simmesport. At nine years old, he received his first guitar from his mother. He sang in his church choir and it wasn’t long before he was entertaining family and friends.
The country music artist is heavily influenced by his traditional country roots and his all time hero Merle Haggard.
He became well known throughout central Louisiana after he entered the Uncle Sam Jam Contest in July 2001.
Being stood up by his band member, but encouraged by his family and friends, Rivers chose to sing solo with his acoustic guitar. His warm, charming voice overwhelmed the crowd and the judges as he sang two of his original tunes. “Watching Time Go By” and “Bar Room in A Bottle.”
He not only became the local winner, but won the state level as well, just him and his guitar.
Rivers performs in many local venues in the area and has entertained at the Boggy Bayou Festival several years ago.
Get ready to dance to the country tunes of Rivers and his band as he wows festival-goers on Saturday night, April 8.
