On Thursday, November 10, 2016, Daphne Chapman appeared before Judge Gary Ortego to plead guilty to one count of perjury.
Chapman was first charged with perjury after lying on the stand during a hearing for Jacoby Merritt, who had been accused of robbing the Subway restaurant in Ville Platte back in 2013.
Chapman, who was working at Subway at the time of the robbery, first identified Merritt as being involved in the robbery and then changed her story on the stand.
For her plea of guilty, Chapman received two years at hard labor - two years suspended - and she must pay $1,000 in fines, $127.50 for court cost, $350 to the indigent defender board fund, $250 for cost of prosecution, $100 for the warrant fee, and $50 to the victim fund.
Chapman will also have to serve 30 days in the parish jail.
