DA investigating possible animal cruelty in Chataignier

Evangeline Parish District Attorney Trent Brignac is looking into what appears to be an animal cruelty incident reported by a Eunice resident who indicated the incident may have occurred in Chataignier.
Investigators started looking into the allegation after photographs began to appear online last week showing a dog attached to a truck’s bumper.
Brignac received the case after St. Landry Sheriff’s investigators and Evangeline Sheriff’s investigators completed their investigations.
Brignac said he will talk to the juvenile, and his parent or guardian, involved with taking pictures of the incident and posting them online. He said a second juvenile could be involved and may also be interviewed with his parent or guardian.
The director of the St. Landry Parish Animal Control, Terri Courville, initiated the investigation after receiving information from a Eunice resident about the incident.
She described the incident as “a sheer act of violence,” and said the dog in the picture appeared to have features of a Jack Russell terrier.
