December 6, election results told

Voters visited the poll Saturday, December 6, for a runoff election for not only U.S. Senator, but also several major local offices and two tax renewals. The following are the results from this election.

U.S. Senator
Incumbent Mary L. Landrieu did not fare well in Evangeline Parish, receiving 39.29 percent of the vote (4,101 votes). Her opponent, “Bill” Cassidy, who campaigned hard against the incumbent, received 60.71 percent (6,336 votes). This was also the trend statewide, with voters giving Landrieu only 44.06 percent of the vote (561,099 votes) versus Cassidy’s 55.94 percent (712,330 votes).

Ville Platte
City Court Judge
Greg Vidrine managed to defeat his opponent, Julhelene “Betsy” Jackson, for the office of Ville Platte City Court Judge to fill the position left vacant by Donald Launey. Vidrine received 54.42 percent of the vote (2,956 votes) versus Jackson’s 45.58 percent (2,476 votes).

Ville Platte Police Chief
Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue won his re-election bid Saturday, receiving 57.53 percent of the vote (1,688 votes) versus his opponent, Linton Fontenot’s, 42.47 percent (1,246 votes).

Mamou Chief of Police
Robert McGee won his bid for Mamou’s Chief of Police, taking 53.9 percent of the vote (580 votes). He defeated Assistant Police Chief Katina Richard, who received 46.1 percent (496 votes).

Turkey Creek
Chief of Police
Robert Glen Leggett ran away with the election for Turkey Creek’s Chief of Police, taking in 62.29 percent of the vote (109 votes). His opponent, Louis Dale Marcantel, received 37.71 percent (66 votes).

Ville Platte Alderman, District E
Donald Sam won his bid for re-election as councilman for Ville Platte’s District E. Sam garnered 55.46 percent of the vote (310 votes), while his opponent, Jerry Bottley, received 44.54 percent (249 votes).

Ville Platte Alderman, District F
Bryant Riggs earned a healthy victory over his opponent in the race for Ville Platte’s District F representative. Riggs received 56.85 percent of the vote (282 votes), while Shounda Smith Jack, his opponent, received 43.15 percent (214 votes).

Mamou Alderman, District Three
Charles Reed narrowly claimed victory Saturday over Derryl “T-Glyn” Brunet for the District Three Alderman seat in Mamou. Reed received 50.39 percent of the vote (129 votes) versus Brunet’s 49.61 percent (127 votes). Reminder: These results are unofficial and could potentially change when reviewed and certified by the secretary of state, which could affect this race in particular.

Town of Basile
8 Mills Tax Renewal
Residents of the Town of Basile voted to approve this tax renewal with 64 percent (156) voting for the renewal and 36 percent (88) voting against it.
This tax is used for the maintenance of drainage facilities and streets, as well as fire and police departments.

Durald Gravity Drainage
District No. Four,
8.17 Mills Tax Renewal
Residents in the Durald Gravity Drainage District No. Four voted to approve their tax renewal as well, with 75.65 percent (87) voting for it and 24.35 percent (28) voting against it.
This tax is for the maintenance of drainage works within the district.
