Drowning confirmed as cause of death in Richard case

The death of Latoya Richard, who was found by family members in her home last week with her head in a bucket of water, is still under investigation, but police have confirmed that drowning was the cause of death in this case.
Richard was found by family members on September 22, when she failed to meet her child at the bus after school, something she did every day. Family members contacted authorities and, after failing to receive a response from anyone inside the home, kicked in the door to the residence and found Richard.
While the cause of death has been confirmed to be drowning, Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue said it has yet to be determined if this case is a homicide. No further information was released due to the ongoing investigation.
