The Evangeline Parish School Board met for the second time this week Wednesday night for its regular meeting.
The meeting’s discussion was centered around the bids for District No. 7’s, which is the Basile School district, general obligation bonds in the amount of $8,500,000.00.
At 6:00 p.m. there were a total of four bids received, and of those four bids, the lowest, which was approved, came from the Bank of Oklahoma Security Corporation (BOSC). BOSC’s interest bid was a 2.569 interest rate over the 20-years that District No. 7 pays the money back through a local tax that was passed in the area on November 11, 2015.
During the meeting, the board also approved the issuance of these bonds, which will be ready on April 13.
With these obligation bonds, Basile will begin work on W.W. Stewart’s campus. The plan is to add more classrooms, bathrooms, and a new area for parents to drop their children off at school.
Basile however, might not be the only school receiving updates in the near future.
At the March 2 meeting, the board also discussed advertising for multi-purpose welders in order to upgrade the NCCER welding program at Evangeline Central. The multi-purpose welders would be Lincoln Invertec V350 Pros, and according to Ted Soileau, the alternative school will need approximately eight of them.
Soileau said, “All of the other labs in the parish are up to date, and I would like to get Evangeline Central up to date as well.”
Board member for Evangeline Central Arthur Savoy, who teaches welding at South Louisiana Community College in Ville Platte, said, “These are very good machines to go with.”
Other items discussed and approved:
Ratification of a requisition to Farmer’s Gas Company for $8,447.69 to restock fuel tanks for Bayou Chicot and Pine Prairie using the general fund.
Approve $23,651.68 from the Carl Perkins Fund to be used for the purchase of 26 computers to upgrade the business lab at Ville Platte High School.
Approve school requisition to Gilette School Services, not to exceed $15,000.00, for PPHS cookie dough fundraiser using funds from fundraiser.
Approve requisition to Varsity in the amount of $6,490.00 for PPHS cheerleader uniforms using collected monies.
